Centaurea cyanus polka dot. Cornflower is a European-native annual that is very tolerant to droughts. Prefers full sun in many soil types. Its leaves have a blue-gray appearance aas a result of a covering of many small white hairs. Produces many flowers. Grows to 2-3 ft., with a germination rate of seven to ten days. Average planting success is 80%. Blooms from March to May. Plant 4 lbs. per acre.

Papaver rhoeas. RedCorn Poppy is a hardy annual with large blooms in shades ranging from white to pink to red. It prefers well-drained soil with lots of sun. Ratibida columnifera. Prairie Coneflower is a perennial native to the Great Plains and found in scatted regions to the east. The upper one-third of the stem is bare except for the flower heads. The flower heads consist of several hundred tiny purplish-brown flowers that form a cylinder about one inch long. At the bottom of the cylinder appear about a half-dozen bright yellow rays about an inch long. It grows to about a foot and a half.

Liatris spicata. Gayfeather produces spikes of unusual, fluffy looking, white or purple flowers. The flowers open first at the top
of the spike. It grows 4 to 5 feet tall and is best used at the back of the flower garden. The plant grows in any soil but best results are obtained in sandy soil and exposure to full sun or partial shade. Flowering occurs from August to
September.
